Counter-Strike: Global Offensive is a first-person-shooter FPS released in the year with many vastly different game modes, either implemented by Valve or the prospering community. These range from a game mode in which you have to work your way through a variety of weapons to get the golden knife and end the game with a knife kill, which is called Arms Race, to a game mode which is based on the possibilities of Counter-Strikes engine where you slide around on ramps in order to finish the course as fast as possible, known as Surf.
This guide will aim to help you to understand this easy to understand, but hard to master game with one of the most successful and ever expanding eSports scenes. Counter-Strike has now spanned over four games, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive now being the fourth game in the series. Especially CS 1. When Counter-Strike: Global Offensive first came out, it was clear that a lot of tweaking had to be done, with which Valve quickly started.
It is playable on PC, Xbox and PlayStation 3, with PC being the most prominent platform to play it on and even though Cross-Platform play was planned originally this plan was scrapped later on. You can switch between players, follow grenades and change the point of view from first person to third person.
Cases are in-game items that you can get dropped after every kind of game you play or by buying them from the Community Market. The contents are weapon skins, completely cosmetic items, with different float and rarity values, which you can also sell and buy. Float defines how old and used a skin looks, rarity defines how high the chance was of you getting said skin.
You need to open cases with keys you buy from the Steam Community Market.

CS:GO Ranks or skill groups, is a way of pairing you with other players when playing in competitive matchmaking. If you keep winning against the other team, the system will notice and put you in a higher skill group. The algorithms for calculating the skill group is not known though, so how exactly you rank up is unknown. Where The Global Elite contains the absolute best players in the world and Silver I is the not so experienced players. The ranking method is as before mentioned unknown.
But based on experience, we can tell you a little bit of how it works. If you keep loosing, the system will put you in a lower skill group. Another thing to notice, is that winning against players in a higher skill group seems to benefit your rating more positively than winning against an equal skill group.
Every player receives a rank depending on his skill. The ranks were introduced to avoid unequal matches and this way to improve the enjoyment of the game. The players receive their rank after winning 10 matchmaking matches max. There are ranks from simple silver I to Global Elite.
Players take a lot of pride in their CS:GO ranks. That shiny badge on your profile is what your countless hours in competitive matchmaking, learning precise smoke placements, and coordinating with others is all for. Despite how much players fret over their skill group level, there’s not a lot of clear information out there explaining how CS:GO ranks actually work. Generally, improving your skills and winning matches will eventually see you ascend the ladder, but Valve remains tight-lipped about the inner workings of CS:GO’s ranking system.
To help you understand this system better, I’ve collected the best-available information from Valve and a variety of other sources. Let’s take a look at what CS:GO ranks mean, and how you can maximise your chances of climbing the arcane ladder. To earn your initial rank, you’ll have to win ten placement matches, at a limit of two per day. Note that an unranked player will be unable to queue with anyone of rank Master Guardian II or higher, unless queuing with a full team of five. Based on successes and failures, your rank will be adjusted at the end of each match, assigning you a higher or lower skill group, if necessary.
As far as Counter-Strike: Global Offensive has come since its release eight years ago, there are still parts of its Source Engine that are woefully behind the times. Valve designed it to help players look over their mistakes and sharpen their strategies, but the viewer is complicated. It takes forever to fast-forward or rewind and is generally difficult to use.

Last year we launched Prime Matchmaking with the goal of providing a better matchmaking experience. Initially the system simply matched players who linked CS:GO with a unique phone number. Later, the system additionally required in-game experience players needed to reach rank As these constraints were added, the Prime status created a hard boundary in the CS:GO community, and players who might otherwise be perfectly happy playing together were separated.
So what if the Prime system was re-imagined using a wider range of factors? We started with that question, and have been experimenting with matching players using observed behaviors and attributes of their Steam account, including the overall amount of time they had spent playing CS:GO, how frequently they were reported for cheating, time spent playing other games on their Steam account, etc.
The results of the experiment have been positive. In matches created using Trust Factor, most players ended up generating fewer reports regardless of their Prime status. We wanted to keep the best parts of Prime and ditch the parts that cause problems in the CS:GO community. Starting today, players will, by default, enter matchmaking using their Trust Factor rather than their Prime status in the short term.
